Guidelines

FRONT magazine is a journal of contemporary art and culture. This publication is interested in featuring original work by emerging and established Canadian and international artists. It is issued five times a year to about 12,500 readers and distributed free in parts of BC and available at newsstands across Canada.

FRONT will consider submissions in all forms appropriate to the printed page, including text-based work (prose, poetry, fiction, performance documents etc.), photography, drawing, projects that use a combination of these forms.

FRONT does not publish reviews or previews of individuals work.

Each issue is given a theme, which will be published in the preceding issue and on the website. FM encourages writers to interpret the theme freely, but they give preference to material that engages the theme in an interesting way.

FRONT magazine’s review process usually takes 6-10 weeks. Multiple submissions are welcome, but if pieces have been submitted elsewhere, please let them know in advance. They are willing to reprint if a piece has never been published in English.

FRONT pays for text submissions and poetry.

Manuscripts can be up to 2500 words. Please make sure that your work is checked for spelling and grammar, and is ready for publication. Minimize text formatting; they will typeset according to their specifications. Single space after periods. Remove hard line breaks. If formatting is critical to your submissions, please them know. Do not send low-resolution images embedded in Word files. .
